  | WHY VICAIR®?
Ready for UseNewly designed Comfort Cells are softer and thinner. This new design gives all Vicair® Technology cushions a softer feel and allows the user to immerse into the cushion more than ever before.
Light WeightVicair® Technology is ultra lightweight with cushions weighing 1.25 to 1.8 pounds enabling the user to keep the overall weight of their mobility system to a minimum.
StableThe unique immersion characteristics of Vicair’s Comfort Cells allow the user to immerse into the cushion while also providing stability. This gives users independence when completing every day activities and also provides a stable base for transfers and improved propulsion efficiency.
Low MaintenanceVicair® Technology requires little to no maintenance once it is properly adjusted. Adjustments are possible while an individual is sitting on the cushion, resulting in fewer transfers. Vicair® cushions provide the superior pressure re-distribution properties of air without the need for frequent re-inflation and without the possibility of leaks. Air is encapsulated in the Comfort Cells which envelop the seating surface, re-distributing pressure away from the delicate areas of the sacrum, coccyx and ischial tuberosities while also providing relief from shear. | *Add or remove air-filled Comfort Cells as needed AdjustableVicair® Technology provides a dynamic seating surface that can be adjusted to accommodate or correct orthopedic deformities such as posterior pelvic tilt and pelvic obliquity. If an individual’s positioning needs change over time, it can be addressed through the addition or subtraction of Comfort Cells from the cushion’s compartments. If an individual has a flexible orthopedic deformity but cannot tolerate full correction at one time, slow and subtle adjustments are also possible thanks to the unique design of the Comfort Cells and cushion compartments. |
VICAIR® CONCEPT “Vicair® Technology was developed to provide the superior pressure re-distribution quality of air with custom positioning capabilities on a stable seating surface with little to no maintenance for the user or caregiver. This is accomplished by the interaction of individual air cells called “Comfort Cells” divided into specially designed compartments in the cushion shell. To optimize pressure re-distribution, envelopment in the support medium and positioning options, Comfort Cells are added or removed from each compartment. Cushions designed with Vicair® Technology provide unique solutions for the individual with simple to complex pressure and positioning needs.”NEWLY DESIGNED COMFORT CELLS - Newly designed Comfort Cells are softer and thinner. This new design gives all Vicair® Technology cushions a softer feel and allows the user to immerse into the cushion more than ever before.
- Comfort Cells are slightly compressed and slide against each other under the weight of an individual. This creates Contour, Envelopment and Pressure Redistribution.
- Comfort Cells are held in specially designed compartments, they do not migrate thus providing Functional Stability.
PRESSURE MAPPING STUDIESPrepared by Alan Siekman, Central Coast Testing History of Pressure UlcersSkin ulcers in the buttocks area are prevalent among wheelchair users that have limited mobility, decreased sensation or both. Many wheelchair users tend to sit on their cushions for extended periods of time. Previously, high pressures have been identified as one of the principle contributing factors in causing skin ulcers. As a result, cushion selection criteria continues to focus on decreasing overall and peak pressures while seated. This study is designed to establish the characteristics of pressure distribution while using cushions from The Comfort Company’s Vicair Technology line of products and to compare these cushions with commercially available cushions commonly used in clinical practice. “Optimal pressure distribution in combination with stability is what makes the Vicair® cushion a functional seat cushion.” -Bengt Engström, P.T.
“Thank You” for introducing me to the Vicair® cushions. I recently had a patient with a stage 2 decubutus ulcer. We previously had him on a competitors air cushion and were not able to keep his pelvis positioned correctly and we were also having problems keeping the cushion inflated. Since putting him on the Adjuster w/ Vicair® cushion with proper adjustments to the anti thrust, we were able to keep his pelvis back and he is not sliding forward any longer. Although I have not been asked to re-visit him since this time I do continually check with the staff and there have been no reports of skin redness or any problems keeping him in the chair.
